September 2005

We’ve been working on a couple of tech problems and perhaps it has come around full circle. Connectivity, bandwidth, performance are the underlying issues, the overlying issue seems to be which solution works the best. Sometimes the solution is not so obvious, should I wear a belt or suspenders? Should I choose Satellite data or Cellular? I am off shore and I go to the Bahamas all the time. What’s available in North Dakota? I am a first responder and I have to know that I can connect. Many questions.

We’d like to propose a solution. Sometimes you need both belt and suspenders, bonding two seperate diverse wireless networks together creating a robust network configuration to ensure redundant connectivity while expanding network performance for growing mobile network infrastructures.

We are in the process of testing this solution that we hope will provide reliability, diversity and redundancy to the mobile enterprise.

We will be filling you in on our results as we move forward. Stop back here often.

Just a quick heads up… Looks like Sprint has apparently dropped their price on PCS wireless data to meet Verizon’s $59.95 unlimited wireless data pricing.

This current Sprint pricing scheme is for Sprint PCS Corporate users only, and they must have 1 voice account also to get this pricing. Look for them to expand it to all users in the near future. My guess is that they don’t want to over commit their resources and will expand it over time.

Also, we understand that one of our dealers outfitted a couple of rental coaches for a popular TV news group with IIM and they are on route south to New Orleans. It would be interesting to see if there is data coverage available.

NEWS FLASH>>> There is data coverage! Amazing, we have seen some press on the PRE-hurricane heroics these carriers have done to keep generators fueled and Colts and Cows strategically positioned.

UPDATE>>>Cellular Data services are up in the center of New Orleans, stable and slow, showing no signs of compression to assist speed. Excellent connectivity (-70db) yet we guess we are seeing, perhaps at best, approx. 50 to 70kbs for IXRTT data, this is not unexpected. Lots of heroics made this possible.
