We began our testing at IL Rte 53 and IL Rte. 64 (A) heading westbound on Rte 64. Our goal was to determine performance (speed and bandwidth) of the KR1 with the Sierra 580 aircard installed. The Sierra 580 is an EVDO product which should provide a good test of both the Sprint network and EVDO performance PLUS a great competitve matched up against our IIM Cell Router running on the Sprint 1XRTT network.

Heading westbound I connected the Alchemy Network monitor application up and we pinged Google’s website at 45 second intervals to measure latency, connectivity and network drops. Additionally we ran, as we usually do, an iTunes Radio Station (56kbs) to attempt to maintain a continuous audio stream. We were doing approximately 50 MPH westbound and were very disappointed by the continuous and repeated rebuffering of the audio stream which was at once annoying and very disarming because we have had no trouble maintaining a 64 kbs stream on the IIM system in the past.
Then I switched to the IIM 1000B system and was able to listen to the music comfortably without interruption. Measuring system speed at toast.net’s internet speed test, the KR1 showed 150 kbs ( no compression) and the IIM showed about 110 (no compression) and about 1000 kbs on the IIM system with IIM Overdrive turned on.
Below we did a screen capture of an Internet Speed Test with shows the IIM-Sprint WIRELESS system at 2171 kbs and a comparison of other wireline services including Comcast at over 4000kbs.

As we approached downtown St. Charles, IL (B) about 17.8 miles distance and 32 minute drive time the KR1 lost the signal and was not able to reconnect. After repeated attempts we switched back to the IIM system which had no trouble connecting and proceeded to play the audio stream without drops or rebuffering for another 17 miles to IL Rte 23.(C) At that time the KR1 reconnected to a Sprint EVDO network and speed test showed 1200kbs, we switched back to the IIM system and showed 150 kbs (without compression) and over 2000 kbs with Overdrive turned on.
For the 34 miles of our test ride, the KR1 showed acceptable performance for about 15% of the drive, and poor to no connection for 85% of the drive. The IIM system worked continuously for the entire 34 miles at very acceptable performance (with compression and without compression) equaling or exceeding current EVDO standards, with more useable bandwidth as demonstrated by providing a more stable audio media stream throughout the entire trip.
We plan to take the KR1 on several more trips to get a more indepth picture of its performance and value proposition. We see dropped calls and lower real bandwidth as very serious performance issues.
Note: Your speed may vary. We suggest you try IIM Overdrive for your self. To get your free test drive, just send us a note to overdrive@internetinmotion.net
We would love to hear your comments.

Charlie and I hit Knoxville running. We had a great trip and got to crawl inside a great new boat just coming off the assembly line with IIM onboard. I hope we see a few more of them.

Standard Equipment for 2007-
Newmar unveils their new London Aire Motor Coach at RVIA with IIM as standard equipment. Other RV Coach manufactures are offering IIM systems as either an option or standard equipment.
RV dealers hope to see you at the RVIA show, in Louisville KY, from 28th through the 1st of December. Look for Charles C. in the River Park booth. See our demos at either the River Park or Airstream booths. Hope to see you there.
Sea Trials start up again. Its pretty tough duty to get on board a brand new 40 footer on the East Coast of Florida and test an Internet system. Charlie gets all the tough jobs. Check back here in a few weeks for our trial results.
We will be updating our Products page with the addition of new conformal coated (marine) IIM Router, fixed, mobile and marine antennas, high performance wi-fi systems, and misc. hardware and installation items.
Dealer Catalogs, pos, and brochures will be shipping after the 1st of December. Also, please let us know if you would like to be added to our monthly mailing list.
We really appreciate your comments. IF you’re looking for something and you cannot find it… give us a call.
